The 2008 European Open Golf Tournament was played from 3 to 6 July at the London Golf Club in Kent, England.

Even though Ross Fisher had never before in his life played a single hole at London Golf Club, the young professional golfer managed to start off the 2008 European Open Golf Tournament with an astonishing record score of 63 in the first round on the 7,257 yard Heritage championship golf course. His opening feat included a memorable 413 yard drive with a little help from the wind (Hole 9).

Spain’s Sergio Garcia gave the 2008 European Open his best shot, scoring a noteworthy 68 and 66 in the first 2 rounds. He claimed, “ definitely the best putting round I’ve ever had”. Despite his finest efforts to keep up the pressure, he was unable to close in on Ross Fisher’s lead.

Ross Fisher managed to claim the trophy and the winner’s share of the £2.4 million 2008 European Open Golf Tournament purse with a score of 20 under par, an easy seven shots ahead of second-place finisher Sergio Garcia.

“Just a great week”, the lucky golfer stated, after almost failing to play in the 2008 European Open Golf Tournament because of exhaustion. “I felt really calm all day, very composed, comfy with my game.”

After a disappointing start, Graeme McDowell was able to pick up his game and eventually placed third with a final score of 12 under par, just ahead of 48-year old South African David Frost (-11). McDowell said, “Conditions were really brutal for the first eleven holes and four over for the first four was not what I had in mind at all. I cracked the whip and got me going and I managed to make a couple of birdies and snapped out of it.”
